South Walton Chef Giovanni Filippone Brings The Heat on Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen

They say if you can’t stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen. Well, Executive Chef Giovanni Filippone of Vue on 30a is jumping feet first into the fire of Hell’s Kitchen for the reality cooking competition’s 17th season.

For Filippone, who was born in Givet, France and grew up in New Jersey, it’s a return trip to famed chef Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen, as he was a contestant on the fifth season of Hell’s Kitchen nearly a decade ago. Filippone cooked his way into the top six during his last appearance and hopes to build on that success.

“This time around, I wanted to do this for my kids,” he says. “My kids and my wife mean the world to me and this was an opportunity of a lifetime to show them that I still have what it takes.”

The winner of season 17’s all-star competition will earn a head chef position at Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen restaurant at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

So was Filippone able to withstand the heat in Hell’s Kitchen? You’ll have to tune in to find out, as he’s tight lipped about the show’s results due to contractual obligations.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t come and cheer him on and watch the drama unfold as part of a viewing celebration at Vue on 30a Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The party begins at 6 p.m. and the menu will feature dishes inspired by Filippone’s time on Hell’s Kitchen, such as El Diablo Margarita and the grilled spinalis with roasted red pepper relish served on a bed of smashed potatoes.
