DeFuniak Springs Downtown Arts Night

Apr 27, 2019

Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Downtown Arts Night is gearing up for another dynamic arts festival along the historic street of Baldwin Avenue in DeFuniak Springs. Scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m., Downtown Arts Night is a family friendly event and will showcase high quality art vendors of all kinds, live music, crafts and children’s activities, delicious food, and lots of fun!

Back by popular demand as an Arts Night favorite, The Mosley’s will once again return to the stage to kick off the afternoon with their earthy, soft brand of folk and country music. Their music is heavily influenced by whatever they are reading – Flannery O’Connor, Wendell Berry, and G.K. Chesterton are favorites – as well as their deep spirituality, favorite artists like Mindy Smith, Stevie Nicks, and Alison Krauss. The duo continues to play around the Southeast at music festivals and songwriter institutions like Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta and the 30A Songwriters Festival.

Following the Mosley’s, The Sand Ole Opry will take the stage, featuring Mike Whitty with Ken Johnson and friends. Whitty can be heard each Sunday afternoon at ‘Sunday Pickin’ at The Bay Restaurant in Santa Rosa Beach. His ‘sandpaper’ rasp has been compared to Bob Dylan’s, but his original music can bounce between old time rock ‘n roll and acoustic melancholy. Whitty has been in the entertainment business for over 25 years, and has warmed up the stage for Willie Nelson, the B-52’s, the Black Keys and Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones. He has also shared the stage with Steve Earle, George Jones, Radney Foster and Bill Lloyd, and members of Kings of Leon.

Ken Johnson has been writing and singing songs for over 17 years, initially hailing from Nashville before moving to the beach. His songs have been recorded by many artists including Uncle Kracker, Craig Morgan, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Harry Connick Jr., Butch Walker, Wayne Newton, and Paul Sanders with Vince Gill among others. Ken and his wife, Andi Zack-Johnson, are known as the popular children’s music duo Huck and Lilly along 30A. They were also cast members of the hit television show and Ryan Seacrest production, “I love Kellie Pickler,” on CMT. They live in Seagrove Beach where they run their own business Hit Songwriter House Concerts LLC.

In addition to the great lineup of musical talent, over 50 vendors will line the street with their handmade, handcrafted or home-grown items – original artwork, woodworking, recycled creations, jewelry, honey, ceramics, porcelain art, pottery, soaps, jellies, photography, baskets and so much more! Enjoy the beautiful night air as you stroll and shop. Details of vendors in attendance can be found on our Facebook page @DFSArtsNight.

Downtown Arts Night will also feature some amazing food creations — locally acclaimed Gumbo and Bread Pudding with bourbon sauce by Ellen Mayfield; Burger Burgers, Rosie Dogs, Pulled Pork Sammie’s, and Leon Logs by Mack and Mary Ellen Bailey; Myra Evelyn Rho’s Filipino Egg Rolls, Fried Rice, Vegetable Noodles and Adobo Stew; and Chef Ernie of Café Nola will be serving fresh {made on the spot} Beignets and Café au Lait. There is definitely a variety food for everyone to choose from so come ready to eat!
