NIghtlife in South Walton

05-02-2019

There's no shortage of things to do at the beach when the sun goes down. Sure, we have the traditional kind of nightlife with bars and live music (and maybe even some dancing), but we're talking about a unique nightlife scene you can't get anywhere else. Natural beauty, unparalleled dining and local character set South Walton apart – why not take advantage?

If you hail from a big city, chances are it's pretty difficult to see the stars at home. But with 40% of South Walton's land preserved, light pollution is extraordinarily low. That means that you have a front row seat to stargaze from pretty much anywhere in the area.

It also means your kids have a front row seat – whether they want to stargaze or simply make the beach their playground. And the beach isn't just a hotspot for stargazers and kids – it's also a popular destination for sea turtles! From May through October, sea turtles make their nests at the beach, returning at night to the spot they were born to lay their own eggs. Helpful tip: if you're bringing a flashlight to the beach, remember to pick up a special filter so that the turtles don't become disoriented on their crawl back to the surf.

Worked up a hunger seeing all that nature? Grab a bite to eat at Airstream Row while the kids play tag in the Seaside Amphitheater, or pop into movie night at The Hub, while you enjoy the variety of food and drink at this popular outdoor gathering space.

If your idea of a night on the town leans more in the direction of award-winning cuisine and fine wine or local beer, you've got plenty of options there, too. For an expert opinion on where to eat, we asked local chefs where they dine when they're off the clock, and here's what they said. Chefs are food professionals, sure, but they also tend to be experts at having a great time. You can't go wrong with these picks.

And while we're on the topic of fine wine and beer, check out some of our local breweries and wine spots. There's nothing like enjoying a drink at the beach, and when the drink is top-notch, that sure doesn't hurt.

Looking to combine nature, combustibles and comestibles? A cozy beach bonfire complete with s’mores is a unique South Walton experience that will leave you wondering why you'd spend your evening doing anything else.

Whether you're sunning yourself during the day or spotting stars at night, you'll never be bored at the beach.
