South Walton Summer Camps & Activities For Kids

A South Walton family vacation is much more than the beach. The area has dozens of fun summer activities and camps designed just for kids, from tennis programs to a surf camp to musical theatre production. Whether your child is into sports, nature, or arts & crafts, they’re sure to find an activity they love… and everyone knows that a happy child means happy parents. Here’s a listing of great kids camps and activities for the summer of 2012:

Arts & Crafts

Alys Beach Summer Art Camps
Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 29 through August 9
Alys Beach Community Center
Summer art camps for kids ages 4 to 12 all summer long. New artistic experiences each week. $30 per child. Advance registration suggested.

South Walton Montessori Academy Arts & Crafts Camps
Arts Week: July 16-20 / Crafts Week: July 23-27 9:00am – 3:00pm
Explore arts & crafts with SWMA’s art teacher, Ms. Carol! Ages 6-12. $275 per week, $55 per day. Enroll both weeks for $525.

The Hidden Lantern Children’s Art Workshops
Every Wednesday at The Hidden Lantern Book Store & Gallery in Rosemary Beach starting May 23 from 2:30pm – 3:15pm. $12 per attendee. Reserve your child’s place in advance.

Camp Rosemary Kid’s Krafts
June 4 - August 10
Monday through Friday, 1pm – 4pm, located behind Summer Kitchen Cafe.
Create your very own tie dye t-shirts, glitter tattoos, shark tooth and beaded necklaces, build-a-buddy and much more! All ages are welcome. Prices vary. Drop in any time but not a drop off program.

Artists at Gulf Place Summer Workshops

Centerline Cultural & Martial Arts Program
June 4 – 8, 9:00am – 1:00pm
Girls and boys ages 7-12 will explore and learn about Chinese language, traditional Chinese Kung Fu, Chi Gung exercises, Chinese arts & crafts, games and more. $120. Contact Sifu Chris Damiano to reserve your spot.

Kidz Beach and Camp RYNO
Kidz Beach alongside Camp RYNO at Watercolor Resort teaches the fundamentals of Ocean Sports including surfing, boogie boarding, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboard, skimboarding and kayaking. The day camp teaches kids ages 8 to 18 throughout the summer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day) from 9am to noon daily. Private and group lessons available.

WaterColor Tennis will continue the Junior Tennis Program with summer schedule starting May 28. Monday through Thursday afternoon sessions, ages 4 and up. Kids Night is Wednesday 6:00-9:00pm with advance sign-up required.

Sandestin Junior Tennis Camp
Sandestin Tennis offers comprehensive junior tennis camps that range from USTA QuickStart Tennis (beginners ages 5-10) to high school tournament players. Afternoon sessions. See website for fees and details.

Golf Garden Junior Golf Camps
Four and five day camps start in June and run through August, 9:00am – 11:30am
Juniors of all ages and skill levels will enjoy learning the basics of the game of golf from Coach David Hanson, PGA Professional.

Billabong Surf Camp

Gulfside Stables Summer Riding Camp
Ages 6-12
June 11-15 / June 25-29 / July 9-13 / July 23-27 (9:00am – 1:00pm)
Gulfside’s Riding Camp combines qualified staff, experienced horses, and excellent facilities to create an atmosphere where campers can advance their horseback riding skills, expand their horsemanship knowledge, and enjoy riding with friends. Call to reserve space.

Barefoot Broadway Kids Musical Theatre Camps

Cooking

Summer Kids Cooking Classes at Kitchenique
Located in Sandestin, Kitchenique will be offering a series of cooking classes to empower children in the kitchen and instill a desire to eat well. A series of classes is planned for two age groups: age 5-11 and 12-16. Classes begin June 4.

Enrichment Programs

South Walton Montessori Academy Academic Camp
June 25 – June 29 9:00am – 2:00pm
Lower Elementary Students (ages 6-9 / entering grades 1, 2 or 3
New students, and those unfamiliar with Montessori will have the opportunity to learn about the Montessori environment and explore our works. Returning/enrolled Montessori students will enjoy exploring more challenging works and discovering new interests in the classroom. TESLA Summer Camps
TESLA is a science, engineering, math and technology-based learning center located in Seagrove Beach. The summer session will include two camp options for interested families not currently enrolled in TESLA. Academic Camp runs each morning and focuses on math and reading, while Hands-On Learning Camp takes place in the afternoon and focuses on fun projects and activities with a weekly theme. Each week is one session, sessions run June 4 – August 3. Cost is $125/week or $225/week for both morning and afternoon sessions.

Compass Rose Academy Summer Day Camp

Alys Beach Parents’ Night Out 
Games, art lesson & movie at the Community Center on Fridays for ages 4-12 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. Friday nights in June, July and August. $25 per child .

Fired Up Paint-Your-Own Pottery is a fun, family-friendly place where you can paint your art on unique pottery pieces. There are also special kids’ nights and events such as “Fishy Handprints” and “Paint Me a Story”.

Sand Sculpting lessons offered by master sand sculptor Mark Flynn on Wednesdays at Alys Beach at 11:00am and then at Seaside at 1:00pm. No charge.

Walton County Coastal Library’s Summer Reading Progrm for chldren, “Dream Big, Read” takes place on Wednesday mornings at 10:00am on May 30, June 6, June 13 and June 20. All age children are invited. Coastal Branch Library is located at 437 Greenway Trail / Hwy 331.

Children’s Outdoor Theater entertains the whole family with highly entertaining productions at Seaside, Alys Beach and Rosemary Beach. Make the rounds along Scenic 30-A to catch Beanie and the Bamboozling Book Machine in Seaside on Monday nights, The Emperor’s New Clothes in Rosemary Beach on Wednesdays, and River Rat and Cat at Alys Beach on Thursdays. All shows begin at 6:30pm. Bring low back chairs or blanket. Free and open to the public.
