Put Your Feet in the Sand in South Walton, Florida this Weekend

After a long week, there’s nothing better than digging your feet in the sand and relaxing on the beach. You’re probably thinking “sure, but I can’t possibly find the time to get to the beach this weekend.” And we’re here to tell you that you might be surprised! Much of the U.S. can reach South Walton with a short, direct flight, and if you’re in the Southeast, you might even be just a short drive from sand in your toes.

Hop on a plane

South Walton is served by two nearby airports: Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) and Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS), which are just a short drive from your weekend break. If you live in the following cities, you can be wheels-down at ECP or VPS in under 3 hours:

  • Atlanta: flights to ECP or VPS via Delta or Southern Airways
  • Baltimore: flights to ECP via Southwest and seasonal flights via Allegiant to VPS
  • Cincinnati: seasonal flights to VPS via Allegiant
  • Columbus: seasonal flights to VPS via Allegiant
  • Dallas: flights to ECP via Southwest and VPS via American
  • Houston: flights to ECP via Southwest or United and VPS via United
  • Knoxville: seasonal flights to VPS via Allegiant
  • Memphis: flights via Southern Airways and seasonal flights via Allegiant to VPS
  • Nashville: flights to ECP via Southwest
  • New Orleans: weekend flights via Glo
  • St. Louis: flights to ECP via Southwest and seasonal flights to VPS via Allegiant
  • Washington, D.C.: flights to ECP via Southwest, flights via American and seasonal flights via Allegiant to VPS

Get behind the wheel

Decided over Friday lunch to hit the beach this weekend and don’t have time to get a plane ticket? In much of the Southeast U.S., you can jump in the driver’s seat, head out now and still make it in time for dinner and a glass of wine – because there’s nothing like waking up to a South Walton sunrise on a Saturday morning. Below are the drive times from just a few nearby cities.

  • Atlanta: a 5-hour drive
  • Baton Rouge: a 5-hour, 20-minute drive
  • Birmingham: a 4-hour, 15-minute drive
  • Chattanooga: a 6-hour drive
  • Houston: a 9-hour drive
  • Knoxville: an 8-hour drive
  • Memphis: a 7-hour, 45-minute drive
  • Nashville: a 7-hour drive
  • New Orleans: a 4-hour, 30-minute drive

And if you leave Friday morning, you’ll only need the day to drive from Baltimore, Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.

Bottom line: there’s nothing stopping you from sugar-white sand between your toes and turquoise water on the horizon this weekend. We’ll see you soon!
