In South Walton, the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. In fact, our best-kept secret is that you might have more fun when you step off the beach!
After a fun-filled day packed with exploring coastal dune lakes, taking in the gorgeous parks and trails, or lounging on one of our sugar-white sand beaches, what’s left to do? In a word, plenty. One of our favorite ways to explore South Walton at night is on a date night beach neighborhood hop. Come with us as we enjoy a leisurely evening at some of our favorite stops for a couple out on the town.
First Stop: Amici 30A Italian Kitchen (Inlet Beach)
Inlet Beach’s newest foodie hotspot opened early this year promising “friends, family, and full bellies,” and if you ask us, they deliver. Kick off dinner with Amici’s Italian spin on a traditional margarita or a colorful negroni, then share a few small plates that put a modern twist on familiar Italian fare.
After you order, chat and sip your drink while you watch the chefs prepare your food in an open kitchen. When it arrives, the food is almost too pretty to eat, but dig in, because it doesn’t just talk the talk.
Sit outside and take in a sunset while you enjoy your last few bites, but save room for dessert – that’s the next stop!
Next Stop: Blue Mountain Beach Creamery (Blue Mountain)
Up next is a quintessential beach dessert: homemade ice cream, sorbet, or frozen yogurt from Blue Mountain Beach Creamery. Blink and you might miss the beach hut exterior of this South Walton staple, so keep your eyes peeled. Tucked away on the corner of 30A and Old Blue Mountain Road, Blue Mountain Beach Creamery has every tongue-tantalizing flavor imaginable, from toasted coconut and pineapple sorbet to coffee toffee frozen yogurt. Bring cash for an old-fashioned frosty treat, and step outside to enjoy your cone under the stars.
To add a bit more romance to your date night, take a leisurely stroll down to the beach, which is just steps away. In either case, there’s no better way to eat dessert together.
Last Stop: Baytowne Wharf (Sandestin)
To cap off your romantic tour of South Walton, pick a cocktail spot based on your mood. If you’re looking for a rollicking, high-energy good time, Rum Runners offers great frozen drinks and dueling piano players nightly in a casual, tropical island atmosphere. Grab a Killer Colada or a Bushwhacker and relax to tunes from the ‘50s to the present day.
If you’re looking to end the night in a more low-key fashion, unwind with a glass of wine or beer at Lumpy’s Wine Bar. If you’re lucky, you’ll drop in on one of their wine tastings; once you find something you like, you can buy a bottle (or two) to take home!
Bonus: If you’re up for it after your cocktails, dance the night away at John Wehner’s Village Door Nightclub. It’s the hot spot for late night dance music in Sandestin, and you may find yourself singing along until the wee hours.
