Miramar Beach

Miramar Beach offers a unique opportunity to explore the Gulf through Dolphin Reef, an artificial reef located just offshore. The reef creates habitat for marine life and provides a shallow-water snorkeling experience where visitors can discover tropical fish and other sea life without venturing far from the beach.

Scenic Gulf Drive runs alongside the shoreline through Miramar Beach, connecting beach accesses, accommodations, restaurants, and local businesses along the coast. Its close relationship with the Gulf gives this stretch of South Walton a distinctly coastal character, with the beach never feeling far from the road.

Miramar Beach offers one of South Walton’s biggest departures from the traditional beach day with Silver Sands Premium Outlets. The open-air shopping center brings more than 110 brands to the neighborhood, giving visitors a reason to trade the beach chair for an afternoon of shopping.

Miramar Beach’s shoreline is made for more than swimming and sunbathing. Parasailing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and other watersports offer different ways to experience the Gulf, while the neighborhood’s accessible beach accesses make it easy to get out on the water.

In the early 1900s, this area was known as Shoals, Florida, and homesteaders cultivated citrus groves along the coast. A devastating outbreak of citrus canker in the 1920s destroyed the crops and led many farmers to leave. Col. Michael Grimaldi remained, eventually envisioning the Gulf-front land as a seaside residential community and giving the area the name Miramar Beach.
