Blue Mountain

With native blue lupine flowers (the “blue”) and some of the highest dunes on the Gulf Coast (the “mountain”), Blue Mountain Beach stands out along the South Walton coastline with its own naturally laid-back style.

Accommodations here range from lavish homes to ’60s-era beach cottages, but it’s the outdoor adventures like hiking through cypress swamps and pine groves in Point Washington State Forest or biking the Timpoochee Trail that will stand out in your beach vacation memories.

Blue Lupine and Blue Mountain Beach
The Gulf Coast lupine (lupinus westianus) is a small flowering shrub that grows in the sandy soil of Florida’s northern gulf coast. Legend has it that the high dunes, covered in an abundance of deep blue blossoms in the spring, appeared to passing sailors to be a blue mountain, giving rise to the name Blue Mountain Beach.
