Kicking Back, By The Book
Get A Read On The Way Locals Like To Relax At Fonville Press.
If it were possible for Ernest Hemingway to visit South Walton, it is easy to imagine Fonville Press would be among the great writer’s favored spots.
Located in the heart of Scenic Highway 30A’s Alys Beach, the gleaming-white plaster exterior of Fonville belies its warm, intimate interior. Featuring a moveable feast for the senses, with books stacked from floor to soaring ceiling, aromatic coffees brewing and a selection of fine wines and beers all cleverly contained within its diminutive space, Fonville packs a lot of opportunity to prop up your sandy heels with unabashed pleasure.
Fonville Press, which was named after John Fonville, a long-respected resident of South Walton, has grown beyond its purpose as a place for refreshments and reading and become a gathering spot for residents with a free-spirited vibe all its own.
Home to Après Beach every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, Fonville showcases some of the area’s best musical performers. And on the second Friday of each month, Kevin Boyle, one of the Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast’s finest talents, brings his hilarious improvisational comedic skills to Fonville as he hosts the ever-popular Trivia Night.
And while visiting Fonville Press, the courtyard shouldn’t be overlooked. A comfortable open-air dining and lounge area with a zen-garden feel, the courtyard offers a great hideaway to enjoy the remains of another perfect Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast day and perhaps a little time spent with The Old Man in the Sea.
